About Me

//
Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too…  One of my favorite Shel Silverstein poems. Yeah, I mixed the words up a little for the blog title but I like it.

My whole life apart from a few months while I was pregnant and sick with A#1, pickles have been my favorite food.  Imagine my joy when I discovered lacto-fermentation and found pickles are not only super tasty but can be very good for you!  Double bonus!

I love to cook, have a passion for real food and real nutrition, and I adore pickles.  I homeschool my 4 rambunctious boys on our little hobby farm in Nowheresville ND.  That is what this blog is about.

My road to real food began in 2002 when my oldest was diagnosed with autism which led me to the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet), then to the Maker’s Diet and finally to the Weston A. Price Foundation.  My family follows the principles of the WAPF except we limit grain consumption and are gluten free.  You can read about our adventure here:  http://www.picklemetoo.com/2011/11/our-journey-with-autism.html

On our little farm we have 32 chickens, 1 cow, 2 mouse hunting kitties and will be adding a couple dairy goats, a few turkeys and ducks in the spring.

My other hobbies include playing the guitar, knitting and just making things.  I design knitwear in my spare time.  Yeah, it’s been awhile.  Not much spare time recently.  You can read about my knitting adventures at http://www.theknittingsiren.com.  Since #4 came along, I’m not allowed to knit.  If I pick up my needles, he decides it’s time to nurse.

This blog is part of the Nourished Living Network, a group of excellent real food bloggers.  http://www.nourishedlivingnetwork.com

Disclaimer:  I am not a health care professional.  My degree is in linguistics and Bible. I believe God is our ultimate healer but that is as far as my education got me health wise (education that gave me a piece of paper anyway).  I am simply a mom who reads.  A lot.  One day I might get that almighty piece of paper that gives me legitimacy but until then, I’m just a mom who reads.
